Full Istanbul 3D

After completing the two-dimensional sense map, we began to do the solid and void map in three dimension by choosing the two-dimensional sense map with a zoom view.

To represent the subject of solid and void in our three dimensional map, we made two spaces which were separated by a white photo block. We made the choice of the main color on this map is red because we wanted to represent by this color the solid side in using different tones of red for different structures of buildings in this place. However, what is very important in this project, is the different materials to express the fullness. For example, to represent the settlement with a single floor we used a red net as material. The settlement with a double floor is made by a transparent red acetate, the settlement with three floors is made by an opaque red acetate and finally the settlement with four floors is made by a thick red wire wound tightly. We can perceive more that the floors increase the more materials change and become more opaque. We made this to show the solidity and the fullness of these buildings.

For the mosque, we used different materials and colors because in Istanbul, there are many mosques and Turkey is an Islamic country. The mosque is made by a grey opaque acetate for the main body and its minaret is made by a transparent yellow acetate. There is a difference between the acetate material because minaret is empty inside so this is why we made it with a transparent yellow acetate.

All the buildings are in different sizes to show the floors and the importance as the mosque with the minaret which is the larger element in this map.

We chose to represent the underground for the void side, which is under the white photo block. We wanted to represent the void with wood sticks and red ropes and so we made a shape with both to create a void between the solid and the void side.

Finally, we had to invent a story with the structure of this map. We decided to make the Skateland story with many little figures, that we made, on the background of this three-dimensional map.

For nature we use metal as a material, but these metals are in different colors, thicknesses and sizes because each metal expresses different elements. A one silver long thicker metal expresses 3 big trees, the blue middle thick metal is 3 mid-sized trees and finally the less yellow little thick metal is 5 bushes.

Behind the different buildings we put black ropes to express the shadow and the support of the building to create a kind of solid side and a volumetric side too. Dirtiness expresses the presence of many things in this place, the older side of buildings and the narrow side of the street. And we chose the color blue to show the dirtiness underneath of the painting because we wanted to put an abstract effect creates texture in the three dimensional map.

We made drawings and a diagram of this story as well.
